Kaboom defeats Danny Myers

Recap: Effectively scoring with a gang of gritty/rapid one-two punches and a bunch of witty barbs, in this 3-rounder from The Battle Academy, Kaboom takes advantage of one too many slip-ups by Danny Myers in round 1 to take the opener and then after losing out to the more name flip/punch-heavy Bar God in round 2, edges the deciding 3rd with another run of piercing bars that haymaker wise out-lit his opponent just enough to get the win.

Verdict: Kaboom (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Kaboom – “Bitch, you’ll get leaned with a stick like a kickstand, I’ll shoot a couple in ya face like Kiss Cam!”

Kaboom defeats Chef Trez

Recap: So what if Kaboom and some in the crowd couldn’t always tell the difference between a freestyle and a rebuttal? Showing off some solid off-the-dome heat, taking full advantage of his elongated rounds, dropping some witty barbs, out-punching and displaying more versatility with his bars in the opening rounds, a smoking (literally and figuratively) and name flip/personal-savvy Kaboom edges round 1 and 2 of this Battle Academy 3-rounder for the win, before a condensed, gun bar waving, punch-heavier and more bar efficient Chef Trez (who also came through with some quality rebuttals/freestyles throughout the match) edged the 3rd to avoid the shutout.

Verdict: Kaboom – (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Kaboom – “Shit real, he fake beefing…Impossible Whopper!”

Kaboom and Jai 400 Block [DEBATABLE]

Recap: Kaboom vs. Jai 400 on a ‘Philly vs. Jersey’ card features a couple of fiery schemes, an elongated 2nd and a dope freestyle to open his 3rd round by ‘Boom as well as a gang of consistently (outside of a final round slip-up) gritty, quality punches/name flips from Jai. However, with neither battler quite on their A-game, a debatable 1st round, Jai edging the 2nd with a more condensed and steadily spicy turn before a killer turn by Boom in round 3 allows him to take that one, a draw here seems entirely feasible.

Verdict: Debatable

Favorite line: Kaboom – “I feel bad for ya hard luck, Gillie walked in…and Jai 400 got starstruck!”

Jakkboy Maine defeats Kaboom

Recap: Jakkboy Maine pollutes the air with ringing gun sounds, salient name flips and stirring (“I caught him a Home Alone set-up y’all…and my trap now Booming like a bitch!”) punchlines to beat back a gritty and (“This shit will kick off from the door…Mister Rogers!”) punch-heavy, but elongated and not as consistent Kaboom in this one-rounder from The Battle Academy.

Verdict: Jakkboy Maine (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Jakkboy Maine – “He started croaking, then I let go of Boom under water, that’s an implosion!”

Dre Dennis defeats Kaboom

Verdict: Dre Dennis (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Dre Dennis – “Shot his bitch twice with the toast that I’m squeezing, spell it out ‘Boom, two O’s in ya BM!”

Kaboom defeats Real Deal

You got a Riley Cooper’s chance in a Panther party!”) Real Deal to easily take round 1, Kaboom gets back in his bag with some elite round 2 (“The SK will knock Deal back-n-forth like negotiations!”) guns bars, before dispensing a literally classic (“Fuck ya guns, fuck ya bullets, wigga, beef ain’t your style, you be busting in the air, what’s your beef with the clouds?!”) ‘Fuck U!’ thesis on his opponent in round 3 that broke the tie and earned him the win.

Verdict: Kaboom (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Kaboom – “Fuck ya dead mom, you gonna join her when I dump lead, lay you down with her, hope that bitch casket got a bunk bed!”

Kaboom and K-Shine (DEBATABLE)

Recap: Here’s another in a long list of one-round battles that probably would’ve better off going the full distance with three. As while both Kaboom and K-Shine went in, each showed enough holes in their armor that a 3-rounder would’ve been a better revelation of who was the better battle rapper. . For Shine, while failing to take advantage of his full time limit and mostly relying on righteous name flips and wicked (“Beef with them burgers, I ground that shit, keep ’em sticking around like a down-ass bitch!”) punches, it left for a more condensed round. On the hand, while Kaboom hit hard with some gritty punchlines and showed a little more versatility (that included some delicious personals with his bars), his elongated round clearly showcased some filler that got overlooked/gassed by the hometown crowd. That being said, taking in both battlers bar quotient, the consensus here is a debatable.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Kaboom – “He say I’m washed up?!, that just mean I was getting dirty first!”

Born defeats Kaboom

Recap: Kaboom says he took this QuietRoom Battle on 3 days notice and it shows what with too many repetitive bars/themes, something even a lackadaisical, but punch-drenched Born can take advantage of in a one-rounder that shouldn’t have been as close.

Verdict: Born (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Born – “Raise the gauge like being raised by gay’s, you’ll get a couple pop’s!”

Kaboom defeats Tay Roc*

Recap: Over a decade later and this classic Lionz Den battle between Tay Roc and Kaboom still has a cloud of controversy over its head. The debate centering around whether or not this was a 4-round battle to begun with or if it went the usual 3 rounds with an OT round thanks to the judges or if the 4th round was just Roc and Boom giving the fans an extra round for fun, knowing that it wouldn’t count in the end. I’m going with the latter and got Boom winning this in 3. After all, most Lionz Den battles were 3 rounds long. Then too, the fact that Roc turned around and spit his bars 1st (after going 2nd all through the earlier rounds) in the extra round should tell you that this was a bonus turn. That said the decision here is pretty clear with Roc’s consistently lit, street themed bars handily taking round 1 before an elongated, but aggressive, witty at times, mocking, boastful and punch-heavy Boom clearly took rounds 2 and 3 for the win over what could arguably be seen as two of the two most basic rounds Roc has ever spit. However, let it also be said that Roc’s 4th is a certfied classic with its fiery storytelling, brazen punches and stellar intermixing of noted Philly rappers.

Verdict: Kaboom (W) 2-1, Tay Roc (W) OT

Favorite line: Kaboom – “You wack, your mixtape is a frisbee, take this filthy nigga back to Walt Disney!”

Reed Dollaz defeats Kaboom

Recap: Philly vets Reed Dollaz and Kaboom trade hard, mayhem-ridden bars, heated punchlines and some recycled darts in this gritty and aggressive 2-rounder that a more scheme-heavy, condensed, less predictable and consistently visceral Reed edges here.

Verdict: Reed Dollaz (W) 2-0

Favorite line: Reed Dollaz – “Crushed the game, fitted in some Nike’s on, you play South street, stiletto’s and some tights on!”
