Recap: Pretty much taking round 1 off to kick back, get his feet wet and let the Detroit crowd know that he’s in town, Snake Eyez quickly gets back to form in the latter rounds while using a consistent barrage of fiery name flips, some stinging wordplay/schemes, steely punchlines, witty personals and boastful barbs to take both turns and get the win over a raucous and consistently hitting in the opener, but topsy-turvy with the punches in the proceeding rounds Times.

Verdict: Snake Eyez (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Snake Eyez – “How our stats natch?, you already failed with errors, it don’t matter how hard you hit, you ain’t gonna take Detroit to the promise land…you Miguel Cabrera!”

Marv Won defeats Times

Recap: In this semi-final, KOTD Grand Prix tourney matchup, yet another strong, mayhem-lit and versatile (esp. with the personals) performance by Times gets beat back by his fellow Detroit homie Marvwon, who outside of a flow-challenged round 2, made his mark with a gang of consistently fierce punchlines, strident vet talk and boastful barbs in rounds 1 and 3 to earn the win.

Verdict: Marvwon (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Marvwon – “I’m up here playing games with Times like The Legend of Zelda!”

Times defeats J. Murda

Recap: If you thought J. Murda was in trouble when he pulled the phone at the start of his round 3, you called it right as after Murda and Times split the first couple of rounds of this aggressive, gun bar heavy, name flip crazy and mayhem-drenched KOTD tourney battle, a still on a killing spree, but cleaner flowing Times takes the deciding 3rd over his slip-up prone opponent to earn the win and move on to the next round.

Verdict: Times (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Times – “They said Times vs. Murda gonna be Geechi, now he getting clowned on stage like Jezzy!”

Times defeats Real Deal

Recap: From the 1st round of the KOTD #GP2020 tournament, Times pulls off an upset, using a gang of raucous punchlines, some righteous personals and head-ringing street missives to edge the 1st and 3rd rounds and get the win over a pretty solid punching, but over time, not as consistently hitting Real Deal. 

Verdict: Times (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Times – “Get your ass beat for speaking the wrong Verb, oh it’s ShowTime!”

Dre Dennis defeats Times

Recap: Who doesn’t love an aggressive, hard-fought fight? That’s what happens here with Times and Dre Dennis on the KOTD stage, what with both spitting hardbody lines, frenetic gun bars and in the case of mostly Dennis, spirited name flips. That said, a couple of too-close-to-call rounds leaves this one decided in the first, where a more potent, wordplay-heavy and consistent with the mayhem, Dre Dennis won pretty handily.

Verdict: Dre Dennis (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Dre Dennis – “You try to jump me ‘cuz my goons ain’t with me?, nigga the tool ain’t friendly, I’ll be squeezing from the back like the toothpaste empty!”

Ty Law defeats Times

Recap: Not always consistent with his pronounced and unorthodox punch game (which allowed for a debatable 2nd round), but here in this 3-rounder from Alpha League against a spirited and hard-hitting at times Times, Ty Law still brought enough frenzied name flips, piercing punchlines, witty barbs and lofty wordplay to take the 1st and 3rd rounds and earn the win.

Verdict: Ty Law (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Ty Law – “He be talking drive-bys and shit, you like a salve that’s already an Uncle Tom…nigga, you ain’t got a whip!”
