Calicoe defeats Raptor Warhurst

Recap: Calicoe doesn’t battle often, but when he does he usually puts on a pretty good show. In this case, not so much as after going through of his turn stunting, he struggles a bit with a couple of memory lapses and has to freestyle in order to finish his round. Still, in this one-rounder versus UK rapper Raptor Warhurst, most of Cal’s witty barbs and fiery storytelling lines are more than enough to beat back the (when he wasn’t connecting with some funny performance bars) mostly pedestrian raps of his opponent.

Verdict: Calicoe (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Calicoe – “I’ll slice your neck, put a smile on ya face, nigga!”

Real Deal defeats Raptor Warhurst

Recap: Not privy to the history between Raptor Warhurst and Real Deal, but damn did Deal have a lot to get off his chest, using an elongated, but brazen, highly personal, witty, wordplay-lit and punch-heavy turn to rip a new one in the UK rapper’s so-so multi’s and more stinging punchlines/personals and take this 1-rounder from Code Red.

Verdict: Real Deal (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Real Deal – “You try to check my pockets, your family will get your picture inside a necklace locket!”

Pass defeats Raptor Warhurst

Recap: From the UK’s Don’t Flop league, a consistently-lit Pass dishes a boatload of fiery name flips, mocking personals and jaunty punchlines (esp. during a fire round 3) to take each round and beat back a lyrically solid effort from a gritty Raptor Warhurst.

Verdict: Pass (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Pass – “For real my nigga, be original, you know what I’m speaking is true, ‘cuz if Shotty Horror didn’t exist then neither would you!”

Raptor Warhurst and Big Kannon [DEBATABLE]

Recap: More often than not, European battle rappers (and their crowds) seem to value style over substance, that is delivery/entertainment value  over bars. Raptor Warhurst, however, put s different spin on that theory, here in this 3-rounder versus Big Kannon, by actually dishing some pretty good and versatile punchlines throughout. Sure, the Englishmen’s more pedestrian bars were still met with many a cheer from the hometown crowd. But after an elongated 1st and a nice rebuttal from BK cost him the 1st, Raptor puts together enough witty punches and stealthy personals to make for a debatable 2nd, before he used some righteous sermonizing and more fierce punches to take the 3rd against a Kannon who while kicking some worthy (“I brought a whole Arsonal to Don’t Flop, that’s a few meals [mils] with the Shotty!”) heat for the first couple of rounds, never seemed stoke his A-game, making for a short and lazy 3rd round that made this match a draw.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Raptor Warhurst – “You want to come to the UK and act like we ain’t no kind of a force, you flew straight from the Windy City and headed straight to the eye of the storm!”
