Danny Myers defeats Ha Double

Recap: Roasting his more pedestrian opponent Ha Double with stinging personals (including reminders on the status of their current day battle rap careers since they started in the same PG class years back) and delivering his usual assortment of fiery punchlines and lofty schemes/gun bars that were matched by  over-the-top aggression, in this 3-rounder from Bayou Battle League, Danny Myers takes the first two rounds here for the win before a more consistent Double’s braggadocio synergy and forthright punches/wordplay easily salvages the 3rd.

Verdict: Danny Myers (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Danny Nyers – “Go get that nigga Ha, it’s gonna be plen…[long pause] it’s gonna be plenty of trouble, oh y’all ain’t catch that?, I stumbled into a bar and said gimme a Double!”

Chilla Jones defeats HA Double

Recap: As hellbent as H.A. Double was here on blaming this loss on a couple of slip-ups in the 1st round, truth is that a gang of reaches in the first couple of rounds on H.A.’s part, along with a more consistent with his heat, scheme-savvy, name-flip spazzing and (“Somebody hit me like, ‘Every day someone attacking you Jones!’, but I knew being King would have nigga’s trying to Black on a throne!”) versatile/potent with the punchlines Chilla Jones is why the Kingpen took this one, before the ever-confident, underrated with the (“My pretense got the King looking like a peasant, you talk all that jazz, well now you gotta feel a real New Orleans essence!”) punches and philosophically-bent Double made his mark with a spitfire 3rd to avoid getting 30’d.

Verdict: Chilla Jones (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Chilla Jones – “Making so much money off of the books…I’m J.K. Rowling!”

Ha Double defeats Trey Murch

Recap: In this one-rounder from Houston Bar Code, even a Ha Double struggling with his delivery at times and clearly on his B-game overall when it comes to spitting spitfire lines is enough to beat back opponent Trey Murch’s monotonous flow and lazy name flips, much less struggle for potent bars.

Verdict: Ha Double (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Ha Double – “Booking me came with a different perp, you got paid to box and ship a body, now ain’t that how you handle merch [Murch]!”

Xcel defeats Ha Double

Recap: Plenty of prophetic speak, rich set-ups and hot bars between Xcel and Ha Double in this 3-rounder from iBattle. However, with H.A. reaching quite a bit and Xcel righteously spitting a more spicy variety of stinging wordplay and God-mode darts with less dry spots, it’s the Team Homie member who takes the first couple of rounds for the win.

Verdict: Xcel (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Xcel – “I ain’t moved by names or views, they turned on me so I turned the tables too, I’m Paul Pierce, got stabbed in my back, but I remain the Truth!”

Ha Double defeats Johnny Parelli

Recap: Dishing nicely with fiery intricate raps and feelgood wordplay that were at times laced with salacious biblical themes, Ha Double scores a one-round win over a Johnny Parelli, who hit hard with a couple of haymakers here and there, but at the end of the day spent too much time firing off pedestrian bars, when he wasn’t obsessing over Ha Double’s ‘greasy’ hair.

Verdict: Ha Double (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Ha Double – “Ebony God is the way I’m gonna black on this bitch…it’s beautiful!”

Profecy defeats Ha Double

Recap: Heavy wordplay and jaunty thematic bars on both sides of this URL battle between the underrated Ha Double and newcomer Profecy. Stayed close throughout and I had them splitting the first couple of rounds. But it’s Profecy who pulls it out in the end as Ha’s elongated rounds had him reaching a bit and stumbling towards the end of the 3rd, while Profecy stayed consistent with his flow, punches and rich performance bars.

Verdict: Profecy (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Profecy – “I got a big strap, the kickback will knock a bone loose, so now I’m just calling shots…Kiefer Sutherland in Phone Booth!”

HA Double defeats BC

Recap: HA Double uses repeated personals, swift punchlines, punishing poetic haymakers, exquisite (“When some [sun] hot flashes at this bitch, it ain’t menopause!”) wordplay and crazy bars to put a hurting on local rival BC in this one-rounder from New Orleans Battle League.

Verdict: HA Double (W) 1-0

Favorite line: HA Double – “They picked you money as the Walking Dead, but I’ll still Rob a Zombie”

HA Double defeats Ah Di Boom

Recap: Entertaining battle between HA Double and Ah Di Boom makes for a dope show as well as a competitive matchup throughout. However, it’s HA’s wordplay, aggression, “reach” (“You fuck up more words than people with dyslexia”) angles and haymakers that edged him rounds 1 and 3 to get the win, despite Boom’s spirited (loved the ‘chainsaw’ screed in round 1) performance and at times, crazy bars–tho he did seem to falter towards the end.

Verdict: HA Double (W) 2-1

Favorite line: HA Double – “Your bars are like bitches who give hand jobs from the back, you just reach around”

Ha Double defeats Statz G

Recap: Statz G and Ha Double get a lot off their chest in this close and competitive battle from Houston Bar Code. After Statz’ edges the first round with a stronger showing filled with braggadocio bars, gritty gun lines and potent (“…I should blast two in you, it look good on the screen, but in person it ain’t the same, he like that new item on the fast food menu!”) punchlines/personals, Ha comes back with a more pronounced, personal-laced and (“I think out of space, give his soul a AR [solar] and let these bullets orbit in his system!”) wordplay-heavy turn in the 2nd to beat back a less stirring and elongated round from Statz. Going into the final round tied, both battlers push their pen and let it all hang out. However, after starting out with a nice rebuttal, Ha Double edges the round and the battle with another personal-themed turn that highlighted by fiery schemes, fiesty/witty struggle bars and pointed, performance-heavy punches.

Verdict: Ha Double (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Ha Double – “See, this is real shit, ain’t nuthin’ to be amused with, ‘cuz the money we got off the shit we stole, we used that to hit the studio and do music…so alladat, what you know about this, what you know about…nigga you don’t know about what you know about!”

Sno defeats HA Double

Recap: Sno aka Andy La Rocksta aka SnoMan aka the “Hip-Hop Riley Cooper” combines aggressive bars, heavy wordplay, nice name flips and a few stumbles by HA Double to take this UFF (Ultimate Freestyle Friday) tournament matchup.

Verdict: Sno (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Sno – “You goin’ see two Lee’s [Li’s] start kickin like a dual match between Bruce and Jet”

Ha Double defeats Anubis

Recap: Another good battle from the Proving Grounds featuring Ha Double and Anubis in a total barfest with schemes and wordplay galore on both sides. Tho he seemed to run out of steam towards the end, overall Ha Double displayed more consistency (esp. in round 2 which he clearly won) to take it in the end.

Verdict: Ha Double (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Anubis – “Silencer, got that 9 quiet but the tech will scream, I missed the first shot fuck it I got LeBron heat, take off his headband with the second ring”

Hemi defeats Ha Double

Recap: In a battle of play with wordsmiths, Hemi’s rapid schemes and robust wordplay lights up the scoreboard with enough points to beat back a stumbling out the gate, but overall solid punching Ha Double.

Verdict: Hemi (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Hemi – “Tables, ladders, chairs, have ya back broke like ya unemployed!”
