Head Ice defeats Midwest Miles

Recap: After a potent first round that saw him use some nice gun (“I got a bunch a niggas outside with drums, it look like I threw a parade for you nigga!”) bars and aggressive personals to edge round one, Midwest Miles dated bars and crowd pandering catches up to him–allowing Head Ice, despite a few bouts with reaches and nonsensical raps, to stay more consistent on the storytelling front, nifty (“Man, what you doing with all these miles and ain’t got no direction? that’s why you stuck in the mid ‘cuz everything west from you don’t see no progression!”) wordplay and gritty street talk to come from behind and take the latter rounds along with the win.

Verdict: Head Ice (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Head Ice – “Know your places, I run through your team with an old forty-four, Ernie Davis!”

DNA defeats Midwest Miles

Recap: In this one-rounder from GO-Rilla Warfare and Black Ice Cartel, you can tally up Midwest Miles’ witty (“If a bitch say she had DNA inside her, then she was raped!”) personals and it still won’t make up for too many pedestrian raps as well as DNA’s more versatile round of room-shaking (“You, Cal and X, when’s the last time y’all 3 won 3 [313]?!”) punchlines, banging freestyles and fierce personals/gun bars.

Verdict: DNA (W) 1-0

Favorite line: DNA – “I could respect a nigga losing to Tech-9 off performance, but you lost to him lyrically!”

Midwest Miles defeats Bones Brigante

Recap: In front of a sometimes hostile Detroit crowd, Bones Brigante deserves credit for getting off all his bars. But the truth is that even in front of neutral crowd, this one would’ve been a wash. That explains the difference between Midwest Miles’ mostly potent punchlines, feelgood ‘106 & Park’ personals and witty set-ups versus the mostly elementary bars that Bones was spitting. All said, there’s no bias in saying that this was just a walk in the park for Miles.

Verdict: Midwest Miles (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Midwest Miles – “I used to be a fat nigga with that white girl getting money…call that my Blind Side!”

Tech-9 defeats Midwest Miles

Synopsis: The maturity of a one-time “champion” is on total display here as Tech-9 not only puts on a great performance, but brings along bars, stories, personals, crowd control, aggression and schemes that meet the high standards of his show (clearly a 180 from Tec’s Lion’s Den days, where he too often tried to be funny instead of delivering consistent and coherent bars along with punchlines). The only question here is whether or not this is Tech at his peak because the former, self-proclaimed “URL champion” hasn’t been the same since.

Verdict: Tech-9 (W) 3-0

Best line: Tech’s whole Round 1 is just classic material. but that “too many weapons, too many maybachs, all this talk about you swerving the jag, you a taxi driver the only thing you serving is cabs, you gotta beat your co-workers to the spot” line was fire.

Midwest Miles defeats Shotgun Suge

Recap: Clearly inspired by Shotgun Suge’s brainless mention of late Detroit rapper Proof during Suge’s prior battle with Calicoe, an aggressive Midwest West turns up the heat with some brawny punchlines, well-timed wit and heated set-ups to easily take the first two rounds over Suge’s mostly pedestrian raps, win the battle and gain some get-back for his home city.

Verdict: Midwest Miles (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Midwest Miles – “People that followed him on Twitter, they’ve been fooled, ‘cuz they figured, this was the same nigga, from that movie ‘The Blind Side’!”

Loaded Lux defeats Young Miles

Recap: Lyrically raw, confident swag with consistent aggression and highly potent (“Yeah you a baller cause  you walking when u travel”) bars/wordplay, it’s all the tools Loaded Lux needs to execute an easy bodybag on Young Miles, who disappointingly chokes twice after delivering an efficient round one.

Verdict: Loaded Lux (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Loaded Lux – “I got a style like I back swing hoes, I’m witty, I’m slicker than that hair on Nat King Cole”

Aye Verb defeats Midwest Miles

Recap: Tek-9 called this a ‘Bodybag’ for Aye Verb, but it definitely wasn’t as Midwest Miles aggressive (‘Watch me make this average bitch look great on cam, I’m Photoshop”) bars and rugged punchlines certainly got him round 1. But from there Aye Verb got serious and basically took over the battle, using witty (“Don’t Miles look like the mechanic from the hood that say ‘pop your hood’ [puffs cigarette]…’nah, nah, nah it ain’t your starter, it’s your alternator'”) personals, rich performance bars and some nifty wordplay to take rounds 2 and 3 with the fierce tenacity, when motivated, he’s long been known for.

Verdict: Aye Verb (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Aye Verb – “I’m swine flu times two, with no pork in my chest”

Midwest Miles defeats Rich Dolarz

Round 2

Round 3

Synopsis: Credit Miles for handling Rich’s choke in a commendable way, other than Tech-9 being so on point, there’s really not much else to say here.

Verdict: Midwest Miles (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Midwest Miles – “You the worst rapper from the Bronx since Drag-On”

T-Rex defeats Midwest Miles

Recap: In this early Smack battle, (“My rock is full of rocks, it’s like the Grand Canyon!”) T-Rex and (“My gun’s like Botox, you’ll get shots in the face!”) Midwest Miles kick rapid punches laced with steely confidence and a whole load of shit-talking. It makes for a fierce, close and competitive battle throughout, much less a sign of each battler’s rigid fortitude to out-punch the other. Rex eventually wins the battle with a more condensed and stronger overall 3rd.

Verdict: T-Rex (W) 2-1

Favorite line: T-Rex – “Like a Muslim with a pork chop, there’s no way you want it!”

Young Miles defeats Eddie Morris

Recap: Judged battle between Detroit’s Young Miles and Philly’s Eddie Morris sees another one of those unnecessary overtime rounds from pre-Smack battle rap days as Miles more versatile bars and gritty street vernacular clearly out-performed Morris’ repetitive bully stylings.

Verdict: Young Miles (W) 3-1

Favorite line: Young Miles – “You like the old Oprah, a big bitch and a lot of talk!”
