Swamp defeats Lu Castro

Recap: From URL’s ‘Homecoming 2’ card, scoring more points with a better overall punch game while also supplying better efficiency lyrically (thanks in part to opponent Lu Castro’s elongated 1st and 2nd rounds that were capped by way too many mundane bars), a consistently gritty, aggressive, performance-spazzing, punch-crazy at times and personal-lit Swamp handily takes rounds 1 and 3 (call the 2nd round debatable due to Swamp’s struggles with his flow) for an earnest win over an opponent who while bringing the goods when it came to performance and wit, just couldn’t compete when it came to punchlines.

Verdict: Swamp (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Swamp – “I was riding around New York with my shit on my lap, first I was home alone, had to turn my crib into a trap!”

Nu Jerzey Twork defeats Lu Castro (Rematch)

Recap: The battle rap stage hasn’t seen much of Nu Jerzey Twork in 2022. But anyone who witnesses this 3-round rematch against Lu Castro (on both battler’s home league: Showtime Battle Arena) will know right away that Twork still has what it takes to remain a top dog in the game. In this case Nu Jerooz using a steady stream of mocking personals, aggressive gun bars, fiery performance-lit darts and stifling punchlines over the course of 3 rounds to handily get the 30 on an opponent who while still able to light up the ring with rambunctious burners, continues to hurt himself when it comes to lack of preparation and chokes.

Verdict: Nu Jerzey Twork (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Nu Jerzey Twork – “Ain’t no tussling with me G, I’m a up this little piece, he wild strong, head shot…nigga better have muscle memory!”

Jerry Wess defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Seeing Jerry Wess back on the stage here on this URL Civil War 2 card after a long hiatus (apparently due to an injury) against Lu Castro and I was immediately reminded of a couple of things: Wess’ performance game can easily compete with Lu’s, his losses are almost always close and Jerry’s punch acumen doesn’t get near the appreciation it deserves. Add to the mix a Castro who’s been in quite a slump of late and it’s no wonder that Wess gets the 30. The Brooklyn-based EFB member utilizing a plethora of stinging/mocking personals, rigid gun bars, stifling wordplay, fiery punchline/set-ups/schemes and rich performance bars to preserve the shutout after a topsy-turvy Castro (who may be battling too often these days) choked in round 1, before coming back with two solid and competitive, but still a bit flow-challenged turns that all in all may leave Big Lu having to go back to the drawing board.

Verdict: Jerry Wess (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Jerry Wess – “Find him in a hole, Cast dead, Golden Girls, he paid a heavy price, buried him dark-skinned, by the time they fimd him Betty [bet he] White!”

Charlie Clips defeats Lu Castro

Recap: If Lu Castro really does want to be on MTV’s Wild ‘n Out, at the very leasst he’s certainly earned a try-out as his often electrifying performances in battle rap remain consistently fiery. And while Lu does need to make inroads with his pen game, when it comes to made-for-TV hijinks and capabilties, the guy certainly belongs somewhere. And perhaps Lu’s charisma and synergy are why a vet/TV star like Charlie Clips would request a battle with him and show him a thing or two on how to reach the next level. The Harlem great putting on a superb showing in this 3-round URL Any Given Sunday match with a gang of fire rebuttals, mocking personals, piercing punchlines, stifling lyrical bangers, jaunty schemes (esp. that round 1 ‘big dog’ special) and righteous darts that despite 3 mostly solid rounds from Big Lu, still garnered the aggressively consistent Clips a 30.

Verdict: Charlie Clips (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Charlie Clips – “Hey nigga, if this .4 hit ya, all dogs go to heaven Lu, don’t let the Lord get you, potato on a barrel, I’ll turn a .45 into a dog whistle!”

Rum Nitty defeats Lu Castro

Recap: From URL’s Traffic 4 card, after a somewhat flat showing against Fonz, Lu Castro comes back with a strong and entertaining showing here against Rum Nitty. The Bronx, NY emcee delighting the crowd (and Nitty) with a bunch of witty ancedotes, fierce/aggressive punchlines, and brazen darts/name flips throughout the battle to keep him competitive. But add in some filler here and there along with a few reaches in the battle by Lu to a Nitty who just almost never let up, scoring with stifling punchline after punchline, mocking personals, graphic set-ups and fiery gun bars/name flips/wordplay in 3 slightly more condensed turns to earn the 30.

Verdict: Rum Nitty (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Rum Nitty – “You think you equal but you not fam, I’m a hundred steps ahead…like a Travis Scott fan!”

A. Ward defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Always able to rely on a nice rebuttal game, but also taking advantage of a 2nd round Lu Castro choke, after getting edged by his slightly punch-heavier opponent in round 1, a spirited A. Ward uses a boatload of fly set-ups, righteous/mocking personals, off-the-dome darts, rich storytelling, witty barbs and stinging punchlines/schemes to take round 2 and handily win the deciding 3rd for the vic in this 3-rounder from VLMG & Tha Kulture.

Verdict: A. Ward (W) 2-1

Favorite line: A. Ward – “Hey Lu Lu, you might be wild strong but I’m mildly athletic!”

Fonz defeats Lu Castro

Recap: With his bullish ethos and heavy bag of bruising punchlines, Ultimate Madness 1 winner Fonz can be a problem on any given day. More reason why Lu Castro, still feeling the love and momentum from his first Summer Madness 11 appearance a month ago, probably shouldn’t have taken this battle. Well, not so soon anyway, as in the first couple of rounds of this URL App exclusive match, while the wit was consistently there for Big Lu, the punches? Not so much (till the 3rd anyway, his best round). And for Fonz, banging the drum throughout the bout with a plethora of hard-hitting punches, stinging/mocking personals, banging gun bars and steely wordplay to take both of the opening rounds for the win before a debatable 3rd, it’s proof again that he has enough smoke to take on all comers.

Verdict: Fonz (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Fonz – “You know who else wild strong? Pall bearers ‘cuz they dead lift!”

Lu Castro defeats Noxx

Recap: A stellar 2021 for Lu Castro continues as the Bronx, NY, rapper uses a gang of stifling punchlines/storytelling bars, witty personals, performance-stunting shiners and steely darts to beat back a slow-starting, but overall aggressive, gritty and pretty solid effort from teenage battler Noxx in this competitive 1-rounder from IBattleTV.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “I will never lose to a nigga with a 14-year-old Justin Bieber cut!”

Arsonal defeats Lu Castro

Recap: In a Summer Madness 11 battle that saw neither battler bring their A-game when it came to punches and consistency, with an aggressive supply of brazen punchlines, some stellar multi’s, performance-rich bars (esp. when it came to shoulder bumps), mocking personals, fiery wordplay and heated storytelling/gun bars, in both of the opening rounds Arsonal (outside of a lame alphabet scheme) also takes advantage of an inconsistent and elongated Lu Castro to edge the win, before the Bronx captain who was makimng his 1st SM appearance put forth a righteous and steadily fire turn to salvage the 3rd.

Verdict: Arsonal (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Arsonal – “Now this round gonna get real ugly, Seal ugly, bet you twety dollars, I’m talking Harriet Tubman on a bill ugly!”

Lu Castro defeats Bells

Recap: Nice, gritty effort from Bells in this 1-rounder from GOTG. But a consistent barrage of fiery gun bars/name flips, fierce bully lines and witty/standout punches from Lu Castro gives the ‘Big Dawg’ the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro -“I ain’t gonna get up here and tell you how I killed a hundred nigga’s ‘cuz I only killed 96!”

Lu Castro defeats Jakkboy Maine

Recap: In an inquisitive battle between a couple of battle rappers/sound systems, Lu Castro delivers enough brazen punches, stinging wordplay, rim-rocking haymakers, some righteous ‘Big Dog’ barbs and graphic mayhem to outlast his opponent in the latter two rounds (after Jakk edged the 1st) and get the win over his former Goonie brethren in what was altogether a pretty competitive and fiery matchup.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “Let’s set this wolf trap, line the flex, 9’sand Tek’s, dull-ass blade, fucking boring, condom sex!”

Lu Castro defeats Mike P

Recap: Dope, competitive N.O.M.E. 11/URL bout between Lu Castro and Mike P is highlighted by the versatile punches, Caucasian clutch-holding and wily set-ups from Mike as well as lively action bars, brazen punchlines, rich set-ups and scintillating gun bars from Lu. Close enough to register a couple of debatable rounds in the 1st and 3rd, it’s a standout and slightly more haymaker 2nd that gives Castro the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “The 5th bring a, I’ll pull a piece out slow…this Jenga!”

Lu Castro defeats Zay Smoove

Recap: From Gates of the Garden, an always brazen Zap Smoove had some hot lines. But a couple of dry spots by Smoove along with a more nifty with the wordplay, set-up/mayhem-lit, bullish with the schemes and punch-heavy Lu Castro gets the win in this fiery 1-rounder.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “Quick question, where you get all this heart from to keep getting back up? go down Smoove [smooth]!, Henny Privilege!”

Lu Castro defeats Ken Savvy

Recap: In this fiery 1-rounder from iBattleTV, the gritty and unorthodox punches of Ken Savvy make for plenty of performance-lit hijinks. However, a more raucous, punch-heavy, wordplay-nice and name flip-scoring Lu Castro lands more haymakers for the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “What gun I’m a use?, awww the Tek [Tech] savvy…for ya Geek Squad!”

DNA defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Valiant effort from Lu Castro, who’s hardbody rhymes, ringing sound effects/gun bars and gritty personals/name flips certainly showed he was up to the task of facing off against a vet like DNA. But whether it was a sublime 3rd round (after taking the 1st and a debatable 2nd round) of scathing personals or a bunch of piercing name flips/underlying wordplay/schemes or self-deprecating lines to get a point or two across or fiery punchline after punchline that unlike his opponent came with nary a dry spot to edge the 1st and 2nd rounds///hell, maybe we don’t deserve DNA.

Verdict: DNA (W) 2-1

Favorite line: DNA – “So stop dissing Shine, ya shoulda hit ,my line, ‘cuz y’all think it’s all about peace and good written’s [good riddance], dissing the wave, well I see you on the flip side of this shit, a lie, that’s why I’m just try’na toodaloo [tutor Lu] on different ways of getting by!”

Jey The Nitewing defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Getting cut off there at the end of his 3rd round was probably a good thing for Jet The Nitewing because really, who needs another Twork impression? That said, a solid showing by Lu Castro (esp. in his opening round) here in this Ultimate Madness 1 matchup from URL. But after a debatable 1st round, while Lu’s aggression was still there, his bar efficiency would go downhill as the battle proceeded, thus leaving him handily beat by an unorthodox, wily pontificating, witty/mocking personals slinging and punchline/wordplay-spazzing Nitewing in the latter two rounds and giving Jey the win.

Verdict: Jey The Nitewing (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Jey The Nitewing – “I’ll cross ya arms in a coffin just outta respect, and I’ll let Twork and them know when they show up to your death, I did that ‘cuz you from the Bronx, not NWX!”

Lu Castro defeats Kid Chaos

Recap: Surely, we’ve seen better showings in the past from both Lu Castro and Kid Chaos. Which leads to a bit of irony what with each battler competing in a tournament that gives the winner $25K, funny how Castro and Chaos would save their best material for the final round. Still, even with a boatload of pedestrian personals, schemes and punchlines on both sides (esp. during rounds 1 and 2), a more consistently gritty, gun bar toasting and bar efficient Castro manages to edge each round for the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 3-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “He heard the music before the shot, he was the last to split!”

Jai 400 Block defeats Lu Castro

Recap: If you’re going to resort to mayhem, you might as well as stick with it as after a lukewarm, but still pretty raucous 1st round, Jai 400 Block ups the ante on his bar efficiency in the latter two rounds, mixing in a boatload of more perfunctory heat along with wily personals and stinging punchlines/wordplay to edge a brazen Lu Castro who started off well, but in rounds 2 and 3 was a little all over the place when it came to angles, all the while resorting to hit-n-miss gun bars when he couldn’t keep his themes more in sync.

Verdict: Jai 400 Block (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Jai 400 Block – “You from the Bronx, but who found you?, the Bronx is where Hip-Hop started from the ground too, you a clown Lu, but [???] nobody’s heard or foreseen you before, so I’m guessing you ain’t from Soundview!”

Lu Castro defeats Yung Murk

Recap: Scoring at times with some mayhem-rich punchlines, but overall too often entrenched by pedestrian bars, in this 1-rounder from GOTG, Yung Murk gets finessed a more punch-lit, performance-heavy, scheme-spazzing and intricate Lu Castro.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “I’m so amazed, and from what this dummy staring, the next thing you know…drop Young [young], clumsy parent!”

Chuck Book defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Gritty, competitive and punchline-savvy showings by both Chuck Book and Lu Castro in this 1-rounder from GOTG. But a slightly more versatile, witty at times and much less flow-challenged Mr. Book edges it despite an equal amount of haymakers between the two battlers and a fire Castro freestyle near the end of his turn.

Verdict: Chuck Book (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Chuck Book – “I talk money, for instance, your talk is cheap, and what that mean is of all the nigger’s I paid to battle…nigger you cost the least!”

Dougy defeats Lu Castro

Recap: In this fierce 1-rouder from WeGoHard, both Lu Castro and Dougy flex with gritty street bars, righteous gun lines, potent punches and moreso in the case of Dougy, stinging personals. However Dougy, more consistent and versatile throughout his turn and able to top his opponent by dishing more haymakers, who gets the nod in this one.

Verdict: Dougy (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Dougy – “Nah, I got a better plan, chopper on me, I’m a let the Harley shoot ya, and this shit a never jam, it’s a party pooper!”

Lu Castro defeats Erky Law

Recap: In this 1-rounder from GOTG, both Erky Law and Lu Castro deliver a boatload of fiery mayhem and visceral street drama. But while Law flowed just as consistently, overall his more nifty raps weren’t able to match the potency, performance, punchline efficiency or sheer dalliance of Castro’s more rugged lines, thus giving Lu the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “If I walk in I’m shooting whoever Sun trust [SunTrust], you can bank on it!”

Lu Castro defeats Street Hymns

Recap: Even with a fire 3rd round himself, Lu Castro might’ve been a little lucky that Street Hymns couldn’t put it all together, that is as far as intricate haymers, till the end. That prognosis speaks to Hymns’ dubious struggles in the earlier rounds of this overall solid PG, whether it was low potency with the more abstract screeds, a little too much attention towards Nu Jerzey Twork, not enough faith-based lines or scoring a trifecta when it came to slip-ups in a haphazard 2nd round. Not to take too much away from Castro tho, whose consistent aggression was more often than not matched by gritty schemes, seismic gun play.bully bars and steely wordplay/punchlines that worked to carrol him the first two rounds and the win.

Verdict: Lu Castro (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Lu Castro – “I need that bread tho, I’m out here robbing God’s people in the name of the dollar…Creflo!”

Pop defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Braggadocios bangers, nifty wordplay, svelte personals, plenty of mayhem and fiery punchlines highlight this close PG matchup between Pop and Lu Castro. But after getting behind and surviving a spitfire, punch-fest from Lu in the 1st round, a consistently gritty and aggressive Pop, helped in part by Castro’s less potent raps and struggles with his flows, comes back and takes the latter two rounds for the win.

Verdict: Pop (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Pop – “I’ll pull up with mad Mac’s, he’ll be plaguing on the floor, getting stepped on and getting clapped at, now he’s a lame contradiction, ‘cuz now he a deadbeat in a dad hat!”

Quban defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Quban takes advantage of 3 solid, but elongated rounds from Lu Castro with more condensed turns of rapid heat, stifling metaphors and spitfire punchlines to edge rounds 1 and 3 in this compettive battle from Showtime Battle Arena.

Verdict: Quban (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Quban – “I’m a catch outside of the club, he get intimate with a .38…a cougar showing him love!”

Nu Jerzey Twork defeats Lu Castro

Recap: Lots of gun bars and some bad editing in this matchup between Nu Jerzey Twork and Lu Castro. Yet, from what you can see, it’s pretty clear that a more aggressive, fast-rapping and (“Your mom take a lot of D, so you know the players in here, we call her Chandler, Why?, because she defensive player of the year!”) joke/bar-heavy Castro took round one, while Twork came back with more (“We know you ain’t got those .4’s dumping nigga, and when the cops come around it’s the only time you know something nigga!”) shiners and gritty schemes in round two to even things up. Last round saw Twork almost choke, but thanks in part to Castro often struggling with his flow and delivering nothing much but standard bars, it’s Twork with some ill usage of bouyant (“At his crib window, thumping on the glass, break in, shoot your mom while she humping on your dad, bullets ricocheting when I’m dumping out the mag, boy these shells like frogs how they jumping off the pad!”) storytelling bars, who edges the round and gets the win.

Verdict: Nu Jerzey Twork (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Nu Jerzey Twork – “Once I blast this nigga with Wessons, it’s like action figure collections, ‘cuz nigga you ain’t getting out the box!”
