Real Deal defeats Okwerdz

Recap: May be a minor thing, but always respected Okwerdz’s choice to go 1st in battles. And here in this Grind Tine bout against Real Deal, the Stockton, CA vet offered up some serious comp what with a bunch of fierce punches and witty/rigid personals throughout the match. But after a debatable round 1 and a pretty dope 2nd from his opponent, Real Deal’s ability to up his punch/personal game, get extra busy with a couple of fire rebuttals and then use his final round to get righteous and excellently break down Okwerdz’s rap style and career, gets the Working Man’s Rapper a well-earned win.

Verdict: Real Deal (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Real Deal – “We would rather hear 1-dimensional good rapping with gun rhymes than hear some yell to overcompensate for actual punchlines!

T-Rex defeats Okwerdz

Synopsis: Okwerdz’ 6th grade (“And your vision’s based on movement, but that’s too damn easy, cuz’ I’m making moves but you can’t see me”) rhymes and predictable crowd pleasers don’t stand a chance against an animated and inspired T-Rex who spouts off enough wicked personals, impressions, jokes and greasy bars (tho, not that he could’ve known it at the time, but there’d be plenty of irony to come in lieu of his “C’mon out the closet, you niggas gay, everybody know y’all fronting, y’all be slapping each other on the ass like ‘good game’ and ain’t nobody playing nothing” bar) to take the win. Indeed, so impressive was Rex that you can even forgive him for that “segregation” flub.

Verdict:  T-Rex (W) 3-0

Best line: T-Rex – “I’m a vet I kill niggas on cameras and shit, and he’s a vet, he be dealing with hamsters and shit”

Hollow da Don defeats Okwerdz

Synopsis: In your face personals, bars, schemes, rebuttals, punchlines, total disrespect…from the opening coin toss it’s all there as Hollow took this one with relative ease. Especially nice when you consider he went up against a guy who usually plays so well for the home crowd.

Verdict: Hollow da Don (W) 2-1

Best line: Hollow da Don – “I said I don’t think his English superb, he weak with the nouns and flow lame with the verbs, [so] if you go back to his name it refers….he just ok (Ok) with words (werdz)”

Okwerdz defeats Arsonal

Synopsis: Never was much of a fan of Okwerdz, esp. with his often lame, loud, straightforward, simple wordplay and play to the home crowd semantics. But his signature stylings worked here, what with enough personals (remember this is early Arsonal, Fight Klub champ), “you recycle bars” mentions and “Fresh coast” hysterics to edge him a win here. Clearly too, Arsonal not only didn’t fully prepare for this battle (too much filler, not enough punches), but he clearly underestimated his opponent and the time limits (which are like kryptonite to da Rebel) definitely worked in Okwerdz favor as well.

Verdict: Okwerdz (W) 2-1

Best line: Arsonal – “I’ll finger all 3 of her holes, she a bowling ball”

Iron Solomon defeats Okwerdz

Recap: In this 2004 ‘Battle for Midwest Supremacy’ Iron Solomon easily comes out on top, the NYC battler using a bunch of belitting freestyles and piercing rebuttals/punchlines to handily beat the off-the-dome, but subpar lines from Okwerdz.

Verdict: Iron Solomon (W) 2-0

Favorite line: Iron Solomon – “I’ll take you to your own state and throw you off the Golden Gate!”
