Recap: From Takeova Battle League, Hollow Da Don and Jaz The Rapper square off for 3 rounds and for the most part it’s a goodie. A confident, pretty consistent and aggressive Jaz utilizing a gang of hard-hitting personals, solid name flips, violence-prone shiners, rich 4-bar set-up/punchlines/storytelling, hometown Houston bars that exposed some well conducted research and fiery schemes to get her point across. While da Don’s unorthodox stylings scored aplenty when it came to brash word association darts, stinging/witty personals of his own, wily schemes/name flips and solid freestyles. A battle that should also be noted for the normally stoic-throughout-when-he’s-not-rapping-Hollow getting a little emotional and tight here and there when Jaz get in on some ‘fake’ angles/personals as well as a surprisingly pedestrian 2nd round (which gives battle rap fans who feel that top tier male battle rappers take it easy when facing Jaz more to talk about) from Hollow, sees the more versatile and consistently-lit Don edge round 1, before a haymaker-lit Jaz handily took round 2 to tie things up. The deciding 3rd, while more competitive than the previous round, still featured more of the same flexing, angle-lit and steadily punch-heavy darts from Jaz, which despite a mostly solid effort from Hollow, earned Jaz the comeback win.
Verdict: Jaz The Rapper (W) 2-1
Favorite line: Jaz The Rapper – “Is this a grudge match?, hardly, it’s not a mirror match sorry, I hate to be that girl but Hollow ‘What are we?’!”
