Yunus defeats Mike P

Recap: From URL’s ‘Outside 5’ card, a dope 3-rounder between Yunus and Mike P stays competitive for 3 rounds with the latter adding some righteous darts to an already sizzling plate of wily name flips, hitting personals and frenzied punches. Yunus, on the other hand, came prepared like well-oiled machine what with a gang of mocking personals, rigid set-up/punchlines, flexing wordplay, scintillating pop references and daunting screeds. Close for the (outside of the way more haymaker-lit Yunus taking round 1, despite a pretty solid turn by Mike) most part, an emboldened and more steady punching Mike would edge round 2 to tie things up before the slightly more potent Yunus would return the favor in the 3rd for the win.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Yunus – “How am I not the best artist when I draw out the best version of who across from me?!”

Yunus defeats Arsonal

Recap: New era battle rapper Yunus faced off against veteran battle rapper Arsonal on the big stage at URL’s Summer Madness XV, and for the most part, it was a goodie. The rapid-punching, wordplay-lit, and often brash Maryland lyricist delivering three rounds of pure excellence, packed with plenty of performance-heavy darts, fly multi’s, dope personals, piercing name flips/schemes and clever flips of his opponent’s slogans. On the other hand, Arsonal was his usual aggressive self but stayed competitive with a barrage of boastful barbs, witty personals, solid schemes, and brazen gun bars. He even threw in a couple of dope rebuttals to show the young gun he wasn’t going down easy. Still, outside of a debatable round 2, this one goes to Yunus. Mr. “Out the Gate” showcasing superior creativity, cohesion, and more consistent haymakers in rounds 1 and 3 to secure the win.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Yunus – “Madness, he gonna be the meme of the day, when I bring a knife, swing and slice, it go from him C-walking to fans saying ‘Jesus Christ!'”

Los Premee defeats Yunus

Recap: From iBattle TV, in a battle that was pretty heated and personal at times, what with past words exchanged and tension between the two battlers going into this 3-rounder. Against the rapid-fire punches, wily similes and African/virgin-drenched personals from up-n-comer Los Premee (if URL could let Chess skip the Proving Grounds, I don’t see why they can’t do the same for a rising star like Los when it comes to the Crucibles), Yunus stays competitive with a gang of gritty punchlines, searing wordplay and hard-hitting personals of his own. However, unable to score as many haymakers as his opponent in round 1 coupled with a mid-round major slip-up by Yunus in round 2 helps a tenacious Los Premee take both of the opening rounds for the win before a 3rd round debatable.

Verdict: Los Premee (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Los Premee – “You ever stared down the barrel of a gun?, that shit induces trauma, this ratchet is an eye-opener…Futurama!”

Yunus defeats Chess

Recap: A fire battle with plenty of competitive grit and crowd interaction and between Chess and Yunus from URL’s N.O.M.E. 15 card. Chess, the ‘vet’ here ironically a decade after his famous Rookies vs. Vets battle against DNA, came with 3 rounds of straight heat. The ‘Shape Shifter’ utilizing a gang of boastful barbs, solid name flips, fiery gun bars, hitting schemes, gritty punches and personals, righteous darts and feelgood wordplay to stay in the mix throughout his 3 rounds. While Yunus, showing nary a bit of anxiety in front of a huge Gramercy crowd, swayed the crowd with a plethora of fire similes, witty personals, steely/performance-rich bars, searing wordplay of his own, flexing ‘Chess’ name flips and battle rap colloquialisms and a gang of piercing punchlines. A close bout through and through with each battler displaying excellent stage presence and versatility to their raps, after a debatable round 1, it’s the slightly more haymaker-lit Yunus who edges rounds 2 and 3 for the win.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Yunus – “Your first time here was versus DNA and you threw up…I pray you ain’t feeling nostalgic!”

Pass and Yunus [DEBATABLE]

Recap: From Takeova Battle, a fire 3-rounder between Pass and Yunus. The latter taking round 1, thanks in part with his opponent struggling with his flow, but also via heavy combo of fire personals (including styling on Pass’ ‘Town Bidness’ slogan), flexing wordplay/metaphors and fiery punchlines. Round 2 while close gets edged by Pass, the Bay-area vet stepping it up with a wide array of lyrical (“They say Pass tense, that’s past tense and in that sense I’m right back if I do the sentence, but when the mask off it’s really like that for future reference!”) stunting, righteous punches and witty personals to edge a dope and personal-drenched, but slightly less potent round by Yunus. Tied going into the 3rd, Pass’ continual name-calling, brash raps and piercing punchlines proved to be competitive. But with an equally cutthroat turn of mocking/stinging personals, fire similes and loaded set-up/punchlines, Yunus would meet the challenge and force a debatable.

Verdict: Debatable

Favorite line: Yunus – “Listen bro, I spit feared quotes and torch the scene, you a joke, a mid-tier GOAT, Joran meme!”

Rum Nitty and Yunus [DEBATABLE]

Recap: Putting aside the constant irritant of a seemingly drunk Smack interrupting the battle time and time again, it’s a fire 3-round battle from URL’s “Outside 3” card between Yunus and Rum Nitty. The former, utilizing some exquisite wordplay, fire punchlines/schemes, multiple cadences, stinging metaphors/name flips and witty/feelgood personals to stay in the mix. While the ever-confident Rum matched his opponent’s flex with a steady barrage of hard-hitting gun bars, gritty punches, wily (“Against Hansel you really did that, you was up there wilding on him, styling on him, but you’re an African, of course you had to go the extra mile for Water!”) personals and fiery wordplay/similes. Add to the pot some fly off-the dome darts by Yunus and you’re left with three rounds that were all close. Still, it’s the slightly more condensed and haymaker-lit Nitty who edged the opening round before an equally potent and debatable 2nd round which was then followed by the slightly more punch-crazy Yunus taking the final round for an overall tie.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Yunus – “You can’t turn up when I turn up, Dr. Jekyl, mister hiding, he thugging, piece booming, speed often, squeeze to him, like a Maury cameraman, you keep shooting!”

Yunus defeats Emerson Kennedy

Recap: Dope, competitive 1-rounder brought to you from OSBL between Yunus and Emerson Kennedy. The latter with a bit of a slow start, but ultimately able to make his mark with a boatload of righteous darts and wily personals that often hit. However, despite a pretty solid round by EK, the more haymaker-lit Yunus would prove to be too much. The Maryland spitter flexing throughout his round with barrages of killer wordplay, permeating punchlines that landed spot-on, flippant personals and boastful barbs that more than showcased his bravado, even in front of a skilled vet.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Yunus – “I’m better with the flow and I know to weak-minded it sound like the educated woke, but he is about nothing, I ain’t estimated tho, don’t you ever play with bro, I’ll drop you clear, while they stop and stare…the escalator broke!”

JC defeats Yunus

Recap: From URL, oh how these yung’uns think they know everything. A dope 3-rounder between JC and Yunus gets undermined by the DMV up-n-comer standing firm on the idea that his opponent would mention his much-talked-about nonexistant sex life. But wouldn’t be the case here as instead JC relied on his usual m.o. of somber gun bars, meaty set-up/punchlines, rich similes, fire grim reaper bars, festive mayhem and bardbody braggadocio lines in a much more condensed and hitting fashion to earn a Gentleman’s 30. As despite Yunus’ elongated rounds and occasional filler that hurt him in the end, the talented DMV stalwart still garned a ton of respect by making each round close what with his electric cadence, stirring schemes, witty personals and systematic wordplay.

Verdict: JC (W) 3-0

Favorite line: JC – “They just wanna to see somebody they feel promising against the top tier guys, way to go, and he just wanted his name in stone…so ‘Here Lies’!”

Holmzie Da God defeats Yunus

Recap: From OSBL, a dope 1-rounder here between Yunus and Holmzie Da God gets edged by the latter. The Jersey “Loud Boy” pushing back against his opponent’s often dazzling punches/wordplay and nifty name flips/struggle bars with a crazy personal-drenched, but also witty at times, righteously turned up and street bars/punch-lit turn that in lieu of Yunus’ sometimey pockets of sluggishness, was more consistently effective to earn the win.

Verdict: Holmzie da God (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Holmzie Da God – “I hate his punches about drive-by’s, pull-ups and all the other shit that Yunus finna lie about, you the Virgin Mary, how the fuck we gonna believe that baby is yours?, bitch you don’t gave a body count!”

Franchise defeats Yunus

Recap: This 3-rounder between Yunus and Franchise from The Riot’s Monopoly 2 card, turns out to be as dope and competitive as one would expect. Yunus with the syrupy flow switches, mocking personals, regal similes and boatload of hitting name flips/punches, showed up as fierce and aggressive like he always does. While the brash stylings of Franchise offered up more than usual assortment of piercing gun lines what with an added mix of hard-hitting/graphic punchlines, boastful barbs and witty/mocking personals. Close throughout with a fleeting backstory between the two that provides context to some of the bars, highlighted by a crazy “Smith & Wesson” line in round 2, it’s the slightly more efficient and haymaker-lit Franchise who edges rounds 1 and 2 for the win, before Yunus avoided the shutout by returning the favor in the 3rd.

Verdict: Franchise (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Franchise – “Tool banging, I spray toast, [slaps hands as if firing a round from a gun] I back out quicker than J. Cole!”

Yunus defeats Chef Trez

Recap: From Body Bag Battle League, showcasing some incredible wordplay throughout to go along with a boatload of fiery gun bars, sporty rebuttals of his own, stinging name flips and a gang of crazy 4-bar set/punchlines, after handily out-punching opponent Chef Trez in round 1, a more versatile and slightly punch-heavier Yunus survives a dope round 2 from his veteran opp to edge the middle round for the win. However it’s Trez, still competitive while serving up a rich palette of fierce off-the-dome heat, sturdy gun bars and gritty punches throughout the bout, who takes the 3rd with a bit of help of a more indirect and struggle bar prone Yunus, to avoid the shutout.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Yunus – “You don’t get that tho?, this is Tic Tac Toe, I’m trying to X out 3 of them thangs!”

Ms. Hustle defeats Yunus

Recap: Crucible grad Yunus flexes throughout this 3-round URL Final Exams 2 matchup versus Ms. Hustle. The swave Maryland spitter dishing a plethora of performance-lit set-up/punchlines, ill wordplay, hitting (that ‘All of the Above’ package in round 2 was crazy) personals, fly freestyles and piercing name flips to claim his seat at the table. But unsportsmanlike (what with a handful of bumps) conducts and one too many darts directed Mike P aside, Hustle was just on one here and she would need every bit of it. URL’s 1st Lady scoring at will in both of the opening rounds (esp. round 2, a classic) with a gang of sublime punches, rambunctious gun bars, bullish personals, a hilarious imitation of her opponent and savage African-themed bars to edge them both for the win before the more haymaker-lit Yunus got the final round to avoid the 30.

Verdict: Ms. Hustle (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Ms. Hustle – “I’m ovulating, perfect time to shoot the club up!”

Hansel defeats Yunus

Recap: From The Riot, a crazy dope, lyrical and competitive 3-rounder between Yunus and Hansel. The former flexing throughout with a charismatic flow that featured a gang of potent name flips, sublime set-up/punches/wordplay and gritty gun bars when he wasn’t effectively utilizing long-used, but still enriched personals/angels on his opponent. While the young EFB member brought the heat with an aggressive and impressive bunch of erudite punchlines, righteous/boastful darts and hard-hitting, emotionally-bent storytelling bars. A battle that certainly deserves a sequel down the line with its enthusiastic wordsmithing, while the more haymaker-lit Yunus clerly took round 2, it’s the tenacious and slightly more versatile Hansel who edges rounds 1 and 3 for the win.

Verdict: Hansel (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Hansel – “Bitch stop, you are just a Franchise that don’t curse…Kidz Bop!”

Quban and Yunus [DEBATABLE]

Recap: From Our Society Battle League, a dope 1-rounder between Yunus and Quban sees the former spice up the room with a versatile stream of crafty wordplay, fiending (“He’s dying, get rocked with long arms like the Beast Titan, military funeral, that’s a flag by the body, look like the menu for Street Fighter!”) set-ups/punchlines and hitting personals/metaphors. On the other hand Quban was able to rock the crowd with an aggressive/animated round of fiery punchlines, graphic/mayhem-lit darts and fiery boasts/personals in an equally efficient turn that scores this one a debatable.

Verdict: TIE

Favorite line: Quban – “Crazy you the creative player but I’m the made nigga!”

Yunus defeats Oppa

Recap: Maryland vs. Maryland. Oppa vs. Yunus on GTX in what apparently is a rematch between these two young up-n-comers battlers. And while the battel was filled with lots of energy on competitive flair on both sides, the end result was pretty decisive as Yunus’ often-exquisite wordplay, crazy schemes, witty barbs, piercing combo punches and more intricate raps/boasts were enough to score more than enough haymakers in both rounds 1 and 2 for the win before a performance-heavy Oppa was finally able to match his animated artillery with more substance and efficiency in the 3rd to edge it there and avoid a shutout.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 2-1

Favorite line: Yunus – “I could make a line about anything, I’m pathological!”

Yunus defeats Big Red

Recap: In addition to a trio of fire rebuttals, Yunus uses a bunch of whimsical punches, jaunty gun lines and slick name flips to score enough haymakers for the win over a witty/personal-lit at times and mostly solid punching effort from Big Red in this 1-rounder from iBattleTV.

Verdict: Yunus (W) 1-0

Favorite line: Big Red – “I’m nice with the backhand, they think I’m passive-aggressive!”
