Recap: From the King of the Dot stage in Canada, A. Ward and Jaz the Rapper deliver a close three-round bout packed with gritty punches, wily personals, and plenty of crowd-shaking haymakers. Starting in round 1, Ward came out aggressive with a bunch of well-polished setup/punchlines and sharp name flips that made for a hard round to beat. But flexing her mettle even while batting in Canada for the first time, despite a minor mid-round hiccup with her flow, Jaz’s punch-heavier run, efficiency, cleaner haymakers, and steady pressure proved decisive in the opener. In round two Ward’s heavy-handed rebuttals would swing the momentum back his way, add to that a plethora of witty jokes, performance-rich bars an stinging personals by the Christian battler would edge him the 2nd round over a strong, scheme & name flip-heavy, but slightly less formidable round by Jaz. Tied going into the 3rd, Ward’s final-round theme surrounding Jaz’s lack of support for women’s battle rap proved to be compelling and dope. However, countering her opponent’s run with a more versatile run of stinging personals aimed at Ward’s Christian image versus his uncouth lifetsyle choices and violent rap content to go along with a boatlaod of crazy punchlines/similes, rich storytelling and hardbody personals of her own during a more haymaker-lit round, it’s Jaz who takes it for a hard-fought 2-1 victory in what was an entertaining battle from start to finish.
Verdict: Jaz The Rapper (W) 2-1
